Imagine. Engineer. Innovate.

An engineering community built on making things work.

The GCU Robotics Club is a student club at Garden City University, Kenyase, Kumasi, focused on robotics, artificial intelligence, embedded systems and autonomous technology.

Mission

To inspire and equip students to build autonomous, intelligent solutions through collaborative engineering, teamwork, and practical innovation.

Vision

To pioneer a student-led ecosystem for robotics and tech innovation across Ghana and the global stage.

Values

What guides our work

Engineering excellence
Rigorous design, honest testing and careful documentation.
Curiosity
Asking why a system works — and why it fails.
Collaboration
Cross-disciplinary teams where knowledge is shared openly.
Practical learning
Theory proven on real hardware.
Responsibility
Safe, ethical and considerate engineering.
Innovation
Pursuing solutions relevant to Ghana and beyond.

How we operate

Project teams, technical sessions, competitions.

Members work in small project teams, each owning a system from requirements through to demonstration. Regular technical sessions cover tools and fundamentals, and experienced members mentor newcomers.

Competition participation — including Team GCU’s entry at GRC 2026 — gives projects firm goals and exposes members to the wider engineering community.

The club operates as a student organisation of Garden City University, working alongside faculty advisers where officially confirmed.

Disciplines

Technical areas

  • Robotics and Mechatronics

Mobile robots, manipulators and the mechanisms, actuators and control loops that move them.

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Models that let machines classify, predict and decide, trained and evaluated on real data.

  • Embedded Systems and Electronics

Microcontrollers, sensors, power and circuit design — the hardware layer of every build.

  • Autonomous Systems and Drones

Navigation, localisation and path planning for vehicles that operate without constant input.

  • Computer Vision and Perception

Cameras and algorithms that turn images into information a robot can act on.

  • Mechanical Design and Prototyping

CAD, 3D printing and fabrication to turn designs into testable physical parts.
